Who is afraid of education?

Daykundi is one of the poorest provinces in Afghanistan. This kind of poverty is mainly due to a clear political will of the different governments that are formed in Afghanistan, despite the billions received in these years from the international community. This money has been given to the majority Pashtun areas, or more often has ended up in some corrupt politicians' pocket. Daykundi was established as a province in 2004. That time this province had only 15 schools, today there are more than 400 schools; divided in primary, middle and high schools. Despite the poverty, the people of Daykundi have always recognized the great value of education and 44% of students are female.
A great number of these schools in Daykundi are formed without any buildings or suitable structures for students, however this doesn't stop people pursue their education under the tents or in some cases under three shades, because most of Hazaras believe, education is the only way to get to justice, equality and prosperity, therefore, in spite of all problems and challenges caused by lack of funds for schools in Daykundi, the quality of self-supported schools/education in this Hazara inhabited province is measured very high.
For these reasons is not a surprise if the first female mayor of the whole country, Azra Jafari, has been elected in Nili, (the provincial capital of Daykundi. Every year more and more students from Daykundi attend the difficult exam of University Entrance known as (Concour) in Afghanistan, (only this year more than 6000). This fact, (the statistic of a high percentage of participation in Concour exam from Daykundi) has created among many rulers and politicians of the country, the fear that an educated Hazara population might one day threaten the traditional balance of power that is for centuries in the hands of the Pashtun élite. An educated population is difficult to subjugate. Educated people have the great opportunity to take the current dominant élite place, which is composed largely of corrupt men, drug dealers, murderers, and Taliban collaborators. Students, who entered the university this year, will one day have the possibility to create a fair, equal and democratic society for men and women.

A few days ago, on Mujahedin's Victory Anniversary over the communists, held at the presidential palace in Kabul, a famous and powerful Pashtun tribal leader in Kandahar held an angry speech against what he considers a terrible injustice. Farooq Aazam has argued that "it is not acceptable and we cannot tolerate that in a province like Daykundi more than 6,000 students participated to the university entrance exam, while from the largest and historical Kandahar only 2100 students have taken part in the same exam." Shortly before, Aazam complained about the treatment of Taliban prisoners (which he called "our prisoners"). So it's not difficult to understand his irritability towards the success of people considered infidel by the Taliban and probably even by himself. Aazam does not understand that in order to discover reasons behind the educational failure of Kandahar, he should do just one thing: look in the mirror. Indeed those who like him promote obscurantism, ethnic and gender discrimination, fanaticism and envy, are the main causes of their own evil and of the destruction of their own society.

Important note: According to the U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), as of March 31, 2015, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) had spent 769 million USD to support education in Afghanistan. A report by SIGAR accused Afghan officials at the Ministry of Education of embezzling millions of dollars by providing fake school statistics to the donors. According to this report the United States might have paid aid money for schools that did not exist. All this happened when Farooq Wardak was Minister of Education. Wardak is famous also for his opposition to girls' education.

Between cynicism and child exploitation: the “Makhmalbaf Iranian New Wave”

Let's close your eyes for a moment and imagine being a father or a mother with a disabled child. Since his birth, as most of parents, you love your child. You suffer with him. You rejoice with him despite every problem.

In a beautiful day, a famous director knocks on your door and says he would like to shoot a movie with your son like leading actor. After a slight hesitation you ask for explanations. You want to know why he has chosen him and about what the plot is about.

Well – says the director – the plot is very simple, but full of philosophical implications and ponderings about human nature: your son will be turned into a human horse, he will ride, will be beaten up and scorned to show to the world how low human instincts can be and how cruel our fellows can be! This is art!

What you imagined for a moment is real. It happened in Afghanistan in 2008. The movie with the title “Two Legged Horse” has been screened in many international film festivals and has won many awards. The director is Samira Makhmalbaf, daughter of Mohsen Makhmalbaf who wrote the screenplay.

Makhmalbaf has recently presented his last movie on the 71st Venice International Film Festival. He has also created the Makhmalbaf Film House a film production company that produces also the movies of his daughters, Samira and Hana, and of his wife Marzieh Meshkini.

The plot is essentially this: a young boy hires a poor and disabled child to carry him around like a horse. The young boy's whims include not only verbal and physical abuse, but also repeated "horse fights" where "the horse" will continually be knocked down. Even "the horse's" tender feelings for a child girl beggar are exploited and mocked. Because of the brutal and degrading treatment "the horse" will become more and more similar to a real horse.

In this movie the boy is hired for a dollar a day, probably the same amount of money paid by the director to the boy's family. But then Makhmalbaf's family is not new to the children-animals similitudes.

In 2004 Marzieh Meshkini (Makhmalbaf's wife) shoots “stray dogs”. Here the dogs are two orphaned children in Kabul. Calling dogs two children is grotesque in itself, but in the Islamic culture, both in Iran and Afghanistan, this is a real insult.

Samira Makhmalbaf said that she shot it in Afghanistan because she could not get permission to shoot in her native Iran because of the problems the regime has with her father.
The question is: could ever Samira shoot a movie like that in Europe or in the United States?
In these countries everybody would cry scandal and would accuse the director of child exploitation.
Why this is allowed in Afghanistan?
Isn't a hypocrite double standard here?
At the end of this movie devoid of meaning but full of cynicism and veiled racism a question raises:
would Samira be happy to see her son (disabled or not) humiliated, beaten and oppressed on the biggest screens of the world?

"هنر و قبیله" دو قطب دفع کننده یک دیگر

"درون مه" عنوان فیلم کوتاه تازه "امین وحیدی" است که درشهرمیلان درشمال ایتالیا ساخته شده است. این فیلمساز جوان که ازچند سال بدینسو درایتالیا پناهنده است، فعالیت تک وتوکی درعرصه فیلمسازی دراین کشوردارد. نظربه فیلم قبلی وی، "گنج درویرانه است" این فیلم کوتاه پیشرفت خوبی درکارفیلمسازی وی محسوب میشود.

موضوع اصلی فیلم، پناهندگی، مهاجرت، تقابل فرهنگ ها ومشکلات درهم آمیزی میهمانان "تازه واردن پناهنده" با جامعه میزبان غربی است.

دراین کوتاه سی دقیقه ای، "امین وحیدی" زندگی پناهنده ای را به تصویر میکشد که درواقع نمادی است ازگریز و فرار و نرسیدن به انتها. شخصیت اصلی داستان که خودش را "درون مه" میابد، درمیان هستی و نیستی دست و پا میزند و دریافتن معنی زنده بودنش تقلا دارد.

فیلم با زبان خاص و سمبولیک خود، سیب سرخ را سمبول قرارداده است و این سیب سرخ است که چند شخصیت متفاوت داستان را با همدیگرپیوند میدهد و برای هریک به معنایی تبدیل میشود. شخصیت اصلی دراین فیلم، یک مهاجراست و یک پناهنده، یک فراری بی امان که بیش ازهرچیزدیگربا درون خود درگیراست و درجستجوی دلیلی برای "بودن" و"نبودنش". شخصیتی که آوارگی اش شبیه افتادن سیب سرخی ازدرخت است، بدون اینکه بداند چه سرنوشتی درپیش رو دارد، به دست باد روزگارسپرده میشود.

مرد بی نام که به "آقای ایکس" معروف است، همه او را دیوانه میپندارند، حالانکه اطرافیانش برای او دیوانگانی بیش نیستند. "آقای ایکس"، شاعر، نویسنده و نقاش اما، آواره ، بی وطن و بی خانمان به اندازه نقطه ی کوچک وبی مفهوم درکلان شهری، درانتظارمعجزه ای روزگارمیگذراند. معجزه ایکه او را ازاین تنهایی و"درگیری با خویشتن" نجات دهد و جوابی باشد برای دلیل "بودنش". این مرد تنها، درپس کوچه های کلان شهر، درجستجوی عشق میگردد، آن جوهرگمشده ی انسانیت که اگریابیدش،"ماندنش" و "بودنش" با آن مفهوم می یابد، وگرنه بین "بودن" و "نبودنش" فرقی نیست. چه خوب اگراین معنی و جوهر را ازته سبد سیب سرخ پیرزنی درپس کوچه های کلان شهردریابد.

داستان روایت غیرخطی و بریده ای دارد و با مهارت خوب تصویری برداری و نورپردازی و چیدش عالی رنگ ها، فیلمساز بیننده را با این مرد بی نام همراه میسازد و تا آخر با او نگاه میدارد. بازیگری شخصیت اصلی عالی است و بازیهای دیگران نیز تا جایی خوب اند.

فیلم ازنگاه ریتم هم خوب است. با روایت بریده بریده و درهم آمیزی خواب و بیداری، "امین وحیدی" درفیلمش مرز واقعیت و خیال را درهم میریزد و بیننده را به درون کشمکش های درونی یک پناهده تنها وبی نام که بیشتر به کف روی آب شبیه است، میکشاند. به دلیل بسیار"اکسپریمینتال" بودن وتدوین غیرخطی، تا نیمه های آن، فیلم برای بیننده عام کمی نامتعارف و گیچ کننده به نظرمیرسد، اما رفته رفته باز بیننده را به خود جلب میکند. نقطه قوت این فیلم کوتاه دراینست که با گذشت هرسکانس پیشبینی سکانس بعدی ناممکن میشود وبیننده مجبوراست فیلم را تا آخرببیند، اما کارگردان بیننده را حتی با سکانس آخرهم مات رها میکند. این فیلمنامه را میتوان شکایتنامه ای از روزگاران مهاجرت و پناهندگی کارگردان آن برشمرد.

قابل یادآوریست که این اولین تجربه "امین وحیدی" با یک تیم کاری ایتالیایی است، درحالیکه درسال جاری میلادی، این فیلمساز جوان افغانستانی یک فیلم کوتاه و یک فیلم بلند با همین تیم کاری ایتالیایی زیردست دارد.

در اینجا گفتگویی داریم با "امین وحیدی" که درزیر می آید.

نیکول ولنتینی: ایده ساخت این فیلم ازکجا آمد، آیا میتوان آنرا به نحوی یک فیلم زیستنامه ای از خود فیلمساز دانست؟

امین وحیدی: ایده ساخت این فیلم، ازتجربیات یک آدم پناهنده ومهاجربرگرفته شده است. مهاجری که به مانند تیریست رها شده از کمان دردرون تاریکی ای که نه ازانتهایش خبریست ونه ازمقصدی که به آن میرسد. این فیلم کوتاه، درمورد دوری اززادگاه و دردوراهی بودن بی انتهای انتخاب هاست. درمورد دغدغه های درونی یک انسان همیشه تنها که با وجود تنهایی اش ، با خودش و با درون خود درگیری و کشمکش های زیادی دارد. زیستنامه نیست، بهتراست آنرا تجربه نامید، تجربه خود، تجربه دیگران و نزدیکان، تجربه انسانی یک انسان.

اینکه وقتی یک انسان، پرنده وار واداربه مهاجرت میگردد وخودش را دردیارتازه ای میابد، سخت است اگرآب این دیاره تازه، به جانش ننشیند و دردآورازآن اینکه این پرنده مهاجربه سختی بتواند با محیط جدید خودش را وفق دهد وفضایی برای نفس کشیدنش یابد. سخت ترآنکه کسی نتواند او را درک کند و این انسان به اندازه ی نقطه ی کوچکی درپس کوچه های کلان شهری سرگردان یابیدن معنی و مفهوم برای زنده بودنش گردد.

نیکول ولنتینی: رابطه شخصیت اصلی فیلم را با کلان شهر چگونه شرح میدهی، درحالیکه دراین فیلم شهرمیلان، شهری معرفی شده است فرد گرا که درآن زندگی انسانها براساس فردگرایی است؟

با آنکه شهرمیلان که پایتخت اقتصادی و نمادی ازسرمایه داری ایتالیاست، به نظرمن نمادی از گمشدن انسان درهیاهوی شهری نیزاست، ولی انتقاد این فیلم کوتاه فقط ازمیلان نیست، بلکه ازتمامی شهرهای بزرگ و پرهیاهو. شهرهای کلان این خاصیت را دارند که انسان را درخود میبلعند و یک انسان هرآنچه فریاد برآورد کسی نیست که صدایش را بشنود چون صدا درسایه آسمان خراش ها به گوش کسی نمیرسد. خیلی ها به نام وهیاهوی کلانشهرها فریب میخورند و به امید اقتصاد، شهرهای بزرگ را مراکز فرصت زا تلقی میکنند، درحالیکه برای من مهاجرفیلمساز، شهرهرچه بزگتر، ماشینی تر، پرهیاهوترشد، به همان اندازه انسان، انسانیت و ارزشهای انسانی بلعیده میشود و فردگرایی درآن به حد بالایی میرسد. انسان ها به مانند روبات هایی میشوند که ازعشق و احساس درآنها خبری نیست، ساعات شان با عجله، پریشانی، افسوس، حرس و کارمیگذرد و زمانی برای "خود بودن" و به "خود بودن اندیشیدن" نیست، همین است که ارزش های انسانی همه پوچ و بی مفهوم میشوند. شخصیت اصلی فیلم هم که یک، هنرمند نقاش ونویسنده است درعین حال آدم درون گرا، به سختی میتواند با شهری که به تازگی به آن مهاجرشده است، رابطه برقرارنماید. با گذشت زمان، به "خودش"، به "وجودش" و "بودن" و "نبودنش" می اندیشد و ازپوچی چنین زندگی شهری دررنج وعذاب است، درآخرتصمیم میگیرد، کلان شهر را با همه دیوانگانش ترک کند و به جایی برود که معنی و مفهومی برای "زنده بودنش" دریابد درست مانند چهاربیتی ای ازعلامه اقبال لاهوری که میگوید؛

ساحل افتاده گفت، گرچه بسی زیستم
هیج نه معلوم شد، آه که من کیستم
موج زخود رفته ای، تند خرامید و گفت
هستم اگرمیروم، ورنروم نیستم

نیکول ولنتینی: تجربه ات را ازفلمسازی در شهری چون میلان بازگو کن، آیا درساخت فیلم دراین شهر با مشکلاتی نیز مواجه بودی یا خیر؟

امین وحیدی: فیلم ساختن کارساده ای نیست اما بدون شک دلچسپ است. اگرعشق و احساس و فداکاری ازیکسو وازسویی هم بصیرت، دانش کافی به زبان تصویری و سبک های گویش و مهارت تکنیکی دریک فیلمساز وجود داشته باشد، میتواند آثارخوبی ازخود ارائه دهد.

درقسمت فیلم سازی دریک محیط خاص، اول باید مشخصه های شهری را درنظرداشت که درآن فیلم ساخته میشود. مثلن شهرمیلان ازنگاه بزرگی خود، شهرنسبتن پرهیاهویی است. ازنگاه زیبایی های معماری هم دوگانه است، هم قسمت های مدرن، نیمه مدرن و کلاسیک دارد وهم قسمت های کهن و تاریخی. ازنگاه ترکیب دیموگرافی ساکنین آن هم دراین اواخرچهره شهرنسبتن چندین ملیتی شده است وخلاصه اینکه ازنگاه زیبایی های رنگ و ترکیب تصویروهم ازنگاه موضوع آدم دراینجا کم نمی آورد، بستگی دارد که چه فیلمساز دراین شهردرچه مورد فیلم بسازد، کافیست اخباریک روزشهررا مطالعه کند، سوژه های جالبی گیرش می آید.

ولی درمورد این کوتاه باید گفت که، فیلم با دید نسبتن انتقادی به مسئله "انتیگریشن" یا "درخودپذیری" تازه واردان به این شهر و رابطه ساکنین آن با این "تازه واردان راه گمکرده" دراین شهر، نگریسته است. درضمن مسئله "بودن و نبودن" و "مفهوم زندن بودن" نیزازدید یک هنرمند که زندگی خود را پوچ و بی مفهوم احساس میکند، نگریسته شده است.

دیگراینکه وقتی آدم دریک دیارتازه، اولین تجربه اش را انجام میدهد مشکلات دوچندان میشود، اما اگرکار با یک گروه خوب آغاز شد ورابطه خوب تخصصی و صمیمی بین گروه برقرارشد، فیلمسازاعتماد به نفسش را حفظ میکند وهمه چیز به روال عادی پیش میرود. ازچهارسال میشود که درایتالیا پناهنده ام و درپهلوی برنامه های تلویزیونی متعدد درافغانستان، فیلم کوتاه "درون مه" درکل سومین تجربه ام و درایتالیا اولین تجربه ام بود که ازآن خیلی آموخته ام. درمورد شهرمیلان، اینرا باید گفت که ازچندی بدینسو، مسئولین شهرداری کوشیده اند، مقرارتی وضع کنند که فیلمسازان با سهولت هرچه بیشتربتوانند فیلمهایشان را بسازند، خصوصن درباره هزینه لوکیشن ها، چندی میشود که ازبابت لوکیشن های خارجی درون شهری هیچگونه پولی نمیگیرند، فقط باید ازچند هفته قبل اجازه گرفته شود وبا مسئولین شهرداری هماهنگی صورت گیرد، که همین خود کمک بزرگی خصوصن به فیلمسازان جوان و مستقل است.

نیکول ولنتینی: درباره سینمای افغانستان چه نظر وچه گفتنی داری؟

امین وحیدی: سوال جالبیست، خصوصن وقتی که آدم نوع نگرش غربی ها را نسبت به هنرسینما مینگرد، ازتعجب مات میماند. مثلن دراینجا، درآکادمی سینمای میلان، یکی ازاستادن ایتالیایی ام میگوید یک کارگردان باید؛
– تاریخ هنررا بداند،
– درباره هنرنقاشی وعکاسی بداند.
– زیبایی شناسی بداند
– درباره ادبیات و تاریخ ادبیات بداند.
– درباره تئاترباید بداند.
– فلسفه بداند
– درباره جامعه شناسی بداند.
– درباره روانشناسی بداند
– رشته فزیک را خوب باید بداند تا برانواع نورها، صوت ها وانواع لینزها مسلط باشد
– رشته کیمیا باید بداند تا بر ترکیب و رنگ ها و مواد کیمیایی فیلمها مسلط باشد و.... انگه میتواند یک کارگردان موفق باشد!

اینست نوع نگرش یک سینماگر ایتالیایی درباره یک کارگردان موفق سینما، درحالیکه درکشورما چه برداشتی از این هنروجود دارد و چه برخوردی با آن صورت میگیرد؟

گرچند، منتقدین ورزیده ی سینما درکشورچون "استاد علی کریمی" درباره سینمای افغانستان، درنوشته های شان بیشتر، بهتر و با تفصیل پرداخته اند، اما بدلیلی که سینمای افغانستان آن چنان وسعت و تعریفی ندارد، ازینرو به خود اجازه میدهم، چند کلمه ای درباره آن به زبان بیاورم. اولن، "هنر" و "قبیله" دو قطب دفع کننده یکدیگراند؛ درجایی که "قبیله" باشد، "هنر" را جایی نیست و ازریشه میخشکد، و بدبختانه درطی دو قرن اخیردرافغانستان قدرت همواره دردست "افراد قبیله گرا" بوده است که دشمنی خاصی با "هنر" دارند، پس با این حال درجامعه ای که حاکمان آن "قبیله گرایان" اند چطور میتوان انتظارداشت که سینما که تمامی هنرها را دربرمیگیرد، بتواند جایگاهی برای خود بازکند.

از بدی روزگارسینما نیزهمانند سایرشالوده های زندگی چون سیاست، علم و هنردرافغانستان دچار"سطحی نگری" و "بی اساس بودن" و "پوشالی بودن" شده است. همین است که نه بهایی به آن داده میشود و نه هم زمینه رشد و شکوفایی آن فراهم میشود. هیچگاه درتاریخ افغانستان نبوده است که سینما به یک فرهنگ فراگیر مردمی تبدیل شود و سالن های سینما به اماکن مورد علاقه مردم عام مبدل گردد، پس چطوربتوان انتظار انس گیری مردم به این پدیده را داشت.

درکشورهایی چون فرانسه، ایتالیا، آمریکا و آلمان که سینمای شان جزئی انکارناپذیرازتاریخ سینمای جهان است و ازمحبوبیت خاصی درسطح جهان برخورداراند، و حتی درهند، سینما از قسمت عام مردم شروع شده دربین آنها راه یافته است ورفته رفته جزئی ازفرهنگ آنان شده است، اما درقضیه افغانستان کارازاساس خراب است.

تا چند سال قبل، ما درافغانستان بیشترازتعداد انگشتان دست مان فیلمساز واقعی نداشتیم که به اصول اولیه سینما آشنایی کامل داشته باشند که به استثنای تک و توک نسل جوان امروزی هنوزهم چنین است. بدی دراینجاست که هرکسی چند تا فیلم هندی دید وازیک چند مراسم عروسی فیلم گرفت چندی بعد میشود فیلمساز بدون دانستن الفبای سینما و اصول بسیاراساسی و اولیه این هنروسیع.

دلیل ضعف دراینست که سینمای افغانستان نمیتواند به این زودی ها به صنعت مبدل شود چون ازاساس وپایه زیاد روی مقوله سینما کارزیربنایی صورت نگرفته است و فرهنگ انس گیری به فیلم و سینما و پذیرش آن منحیث یک هنر ویک وسیله صنعتی-هنری درکشورترویج نشده است ونه هم برای آن کدام برنامه درازمدت درنظرگرفته شده است و روی آن نمیشود سرمایه گذاری زودرس نمود، ازینرو شاید نیاز به مدت زمان تغییریک نسل باشد تا بتوان هنرسینما را درجامعه نهادینه ساخت و جزفرهنگ مردم نمود، حالانکه درحال حاضر نیاز به کسانی است که فیلمهایی با کیفیت استانداردهای جهانی بسازند که هم ازنگاه اقتصادی و هم ازنگاه فرهنگی برای افغانستان میتواند سود آورباشد.
اگرفیلمسازان فعلی افغانستان را دسته بندی نماییم، سه چهاردسته میشوند؛ اول فوسیل های سینمای دوره کمونیست ها، که بجز از یکی دوتن سرشناس ازآن دوره، بیشترشان تاریخ مصرف شان گذشته ودیگرکاری برای سینمای نیمه جان افغانستان انجام داده نمیتوانند، دوم فیلمسازان نسبتن جوان آن زمانها که توانستند خودشان را با تحصیلات درخارج از کشوربا سینما نسبتن آشنا سازند که فعلن به سن پختگی و ثمر دهی رسیده اند ولی تعداد آنها هم معدود است، سوم آن دسته کسانیکه درسالهای دوره جنگ ها و مهاجرت ها درکشورهای همسایه توانستند هنرسینما را یا بصورت حرفه ای یا نیمه حرفه یی دنبال کنند و آثار چندی ازخود بجا بگذارند که تعداد آنها نیزچندان زیاد نیست، ولی بدی ای که این دسته از فیلمسازان دارند، بیشتردرگروتقلید ازاساتید شان اند و تا کنون نتوانسته اند راه مستقل خویش را دریابند و خودشان باشند.

گروه دیگرهم آماتورانی اند که با دیدن و تقلید ازچند فیلم بالییودی که خود تقلید ازفیلمهای هالییودی اند، فیلم های دهن پرکن و تقلیدی دسته سوم وچهارم میسازند همین ها اند که با کارنادرست شان، بیشترباعث تنفرمردم ازسینما میشوند. دراین میان اما، دوسه چیزامیدوارکننده است، یکی پیشرفت روزافزون تکنالوژی و امکانات سمعی-بصری درسطح جهان که هرچه زودترباعث فرهنگ انس گیری مردم با فرهنگ تصویری میشود و کارتصویری را به یک پدیده عام تبدیل میکند، دوم افزایش روزافزون تلویزیونها که حداقل میتوانند دردرازمدت برای "تمرین دید" و "نوع نگرش" مفید واقع شود و سوم شاید تنها امید به شکوفایی سینما، نسلی باشد که با دیدن تمامی این طیف های فیلمسازان وبا سپری نمودن دوره های کوتاه مدت و میان مدت چه درداخل و چه درخارج ازکشور، توانسته اند کارهایی نسبتن قابل قبول ازخود ارائه بدهند و همین هایند که امروز میکارند، تا فرداها ثمری برای درو کردن باشد.

با آنکه افغانستان سرزمین قصه های ناب، دست نخورده و ناگفته است، دراین ده سال گذشته، همانند بسیاری ازفرصت های طلایی ازدست رفته، درعرصه سینما نیزبسیار کم کاری شده. ازقراریکه افغانستان درمرکزتوجه جهانی قرارداشت، فیلمسازان افغانستانی میتوانستند توجه فیلمسازان جهان را به این کشور جلب کنند و تا این فیلمسازان به افغانستان سرازیرمیشدند و فیلمهایشان را میساختند که هم به اقتصاد کشورکمک مینمود وهم ازنگاه فرهنگ، میتوانست کشور ما را به جهانیان معرفی نماید، اما متاسفانه همه این فرصت های طلایی سوخته است و بجزازچند فیلم بلند سینمایی پروژه خارجی، دردوره پس از طالبان، کارزیادی صورت نگرفته که خود لطمه دیگریست برای سینمای افغانستان.

نیکول ولنتینی: پلان ها و برنامه های آینده ات چیست؟

امین وحیدی: درشرایط دشواروبحران اقتصادی کنونی، سینماگران مستقل، نمیتوانند امید زیادی به دل راه دهند، اما درصورتیکه اراده باشد راه حل هایی نیزپیش رودارند. مثلن بدون درنظرداشت اقتصاد و بحران و مشکلات و موانع، سینماگری که بخواهد مستقلن به کارش ادامه دهد درصدد راه های الترناتیف است. درست همین کاری که ما درمیلان انجام میدهیم. هرگاه سوژه ای بدردبخوری پیدا شد، دوستان سینما گرروی آن بحث نموده و فیلمنامه آن را تکمیل مینمایند و با وسایل و امکانات دردست داشته و باهزینه بسیارناچیز آنرا میسازند، درصورتیکه ازآن درآمدی حاصل شد، به صورت فیصدی بین همکاران تقسیم میشود، این یک نوع شیوه اعتراض هم علیه بحران اقتصادی است و هم علیه فیلم های غول آسای سینمای "مین ستریم" یا "جریان اصلی" است. دراین صورت امکان دارد، همین کارهای کوچک و کم هزینه ازنگاه کیفی خیلی عالی ازآب درایند، چرا که با عشق و صمیمیت و تخصص ساخته میشوند.
فعلن یک فیلم کوتاه داستانی با عنوان "آخرین امید" درباره زندگی یک قهرمان ورزشی افغانستانی که درکشورایتالیا با چالش ها و مشکلات خاص خود دست وپنجه نرم میکند را میسازم که درمرحله تدوین قراردارد. برای همین سال 2012 میلادی درحال تدارکات یک فیلم بلند داستانی هستم که ژانرکامیدی سیاه است، که اگرخواست خداوند بود، منحیث اولین کاربلندم میخواهم بسازمش. فیلمنامه اش درآخرین مراحل قراردارد و مسائل مرحله پیش تولیدش درحال آغازاست که امیدوارم بتوانم این فیلم بلند را به خوبی با همین تیم موجود ایتالیایی که فعلن دوستانم هستند بسازم.
ولی درهرحال همیشه باید به زندگی، به یک فردای روشنترازامروز و یک آینده بهترامیدواربود، زیرا فردا روز دیگریست و بزرگان قدیم گفته اند:
تا ریـــــــــشه درآب است، امــید ثمراست!

Interview with film director, Mohammed Amin Wahidi

"Within the Mists" or “Dentro la Foschia” is the title of a film by Afghanistani director, Mohammad Amin Wahidi. Due to the confines of artistic expression in his homeland, Amin has been living in Italy since 2007. This film illustrates the refreshing bravado of his work. It alludes to the life of the protagonist, but also brings meaning to all of modern man. In the midst of uncertain future, the absence of dependable, concrete relationships brings loss of meaning and doubt to life where perhaps only the radiance of an ordinary red apple stands clearly and visibly as a symbol of love. Love constantly renews our hopes of finding an answer to questions that plague most of humanity: What am I doing here? What is the meaning of my presence in the world?
Relationships help us shape our true identity in this life. The lives of the characters in Amin's film are inextricably linked to these ever present questions in life. With his keen and spectacular touch in use of lights, cameras and staging, Amin transports us into an allegorical universe where the cerebral boundaries between fiction and reality appear blurred but are mentally recognizable. The protagonist is a poet and a writer, and perhaps for this reason more prone to introspection and understanding of how and why the human soul yearns for a place to adapt. He is also an outsider. An undefined element of society who therefore cannot be accommodated within it. The "apple" is also the pivot on which moves the whole story, linking the lives of the characters as people, clearing for a moment the differences that appreciably divide them. The apple becomes a common denominator of all mankind.

In any language or corner of the world, solitude has an overwhelming presence and as does everywhere, can devour men‘s souls. It is a constant force upon the poet which brings him to his final choice. The proverbial escape. Mirroring the thoughts of all men, a departure from the illusory drabness of life in the city. His hopeful search to find redemption. The poet's choice conclusively brings a karmic continuity to his life.

Interview with film director, Mohammed Amin Wahidi

Where did the idea for the making of this film? It could perhaps be called in a sense a biopic?

“The idea of this short film was born from my own experiences as a refugee, the difficulties that exist in being refugees in a country far away from their land is considerably high, and when a person feels a certain kind of pain and when there is no way to express themselves in such a way that others understand, there is a lack, a void that causes misunderstanding. For an intellectual, a writer or an artist is very important that their voices can be heard, understood and accepted by others. Its existence as an artist depends on what he is, by his thinking and his actions. When he perceived not to be heard and understood by others, there will be questions about their lives as a result of individual and artist.

I think artists are like the waves: until they are moving they exist, but when they cease to move they don't exist any more.

In regards the second part of the question, I would say that my film can not properly be called autobiographical, at least not directly, but when a film is made, it will almost always be found something of the personal experience of the director. This film was made from both: my personal experiences and those of people living around me.”

How would you describe the relationship between the protagonist and the city? Is Milan represented here as a city in which defining relationships are becoming more sporadic?

“Normally, the big cities like Milan are considered centers of opportunities. It is believed that the number of opportunities is proportional to the size of the city, but I had the feeling that this impressive size of the city made me often feel lost and written off. This is not the prerogative of Milan, but of the big cities in general, which sometimes swallow men. The more the city is great and life becomes more mechanical, which is why some human values inevitably are lost, we spend our time rushing from one place to another and time to think about themselves and others very little remains.”

How did you live your experience in shooting a film in Milan? Did you find any difficulty?

“Making a movie is a very interesting, but at the same time difficult and tiring, experience, so you need a lot of passion, energy, love, and patience. Creating a film is like raising a child, the idea is born, grows and finally becomes a movie projected on the screen.

Certainly there are always difficulties, especially in a big and busy city. In this short, the good thing was that there was no fee for the locations, thanks to the initiative of the municipality of Milan, which for a couple of years provides the locations for free, and thanks also to "Lombardia film Commission”, which allowed us to find the best places for the film. Until two years ago the price of shooting a film in locations outside of the city was in fact very high.”

What can you say about the health of Afghanistan cinema right now?

“Unfortunately, like many other important sectors, the cinema in Afghanistan, has not yet been well established and known, so for now it is not on the top of the list of areas in which they are willing and able to invest. We never had a film industry itself, but during the communist era were shot the best films in the history of Afghanistan, as the pro-USSR government was aware of the value of cinema as a powerful propaganda weapon.

From many years no longer exists a culture of cinema in Afghanistan and people don't know the importance of cinema. There is not even a private sector that invests in the cinema and produces films. In the last ten years, there were emerging directors who have done some good work, but have not been filmed many movies. The quantity of the film is not great, but the quality is more than acceptable. The only hope for the future of cinema are the young Afghanistani filmmakers who have studied film and have an extraordinary capacity for making movies. They are the future of the Afghanistan film.”

What are your future plans?

“For the moment I have at least a dozen ideas and subjects to achieve in the years to come, but the actual projects already decided consist of two films that will be realized in the 2012. One is a short film tentatively titled "The Last Hope", which tells the daily life, obstacles, challenges and problems faced by a Hazara boxing and kickboxing champion in Italy. This film will be a short fiction produced by "Cinema Deedenow Afghanistan" and "Remspot Italy." The director and the script will always be mine, and the cinematography will be headed by Marco Masante.

The other project focuses on a feature film that I hope to achieve by the end of 2012. The working title of this film is "Misunderstanding" and tells the story of a group of young immigrants and refugees abroad who find themselves sharing an apartment in Milan. At the time, "Cinema Deedenow Afghanistan" and "Remspot Italy" are the two film production companies but we are still looking for Italian and foreign co-producers for the final.

In addition to the film, there are other activities that we are preparing to organize in Italy, such as exhibitions of art and photography by various artists from Afghanistan.”
